Nigeria beats Argentina 4 - 2 in friendlies

Image
Alex Iwobi scored twice as Nigeria fought back from 2-0 down against an Argentina side missing Lionel Messi to secure a stunning 4-2 friendly victory in Krasnodar. Sergio Aguero scored his 36th international goal to move clear in third place on Argentina's all-time scoring list as Jorge Sampaoli's side looked set to prosper despite the absence of Messi, who had returned to Barcelona after featuring in the 1-0 win over Russia on Saturday. Having drawn level with Hernan Crespo by scoring a late winner against the Russians, Aguero followed up his first international goal since June 2016 by tapping home Argentina's second to back up Ever Banega's free-kick opener. Yet their comfortable cushion evaporated either side of the interval, with Kelechi Iheanacho inspiring a Nigeria fightback with a free-kick of his own in the closing stages of the first half. Two goals in the space of three second-half minutes from Iwobi and Bryan Idowu swung the game further away from...

The 31-year-old Nadal will be the oldest year-end number one and first season-ending number one over the age of 30 since the Emirates ATP Rankings were established in 1973. Premier League Weekend Result

Image
SATURDAY RESULTS CHELSEA 4 - 2 WATFORD Cesar Azpilicueta and Michy Batshuayi proved Chelsea's heroes as they battled to a thrilling 4-2 win over Watford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Batshuayi came off the bench to make it 2-2, with Watford having led for much of the second half through Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra, before Azpilicueta and the Belgium international secured the win in the dying minutes. The result came on the back of consecutive defeats for the Premier League champions and the pressure on boss Conte is likely to ease somewhat, with the Blues registering only their second win in five league games. HUDDERSFIELD 2 - 1 MANCHESTER UNITED Manchester United's unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to an end in a shock 2-1 loss at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, with Victor Lindelof the villain of the piece. Messi Sends Argentina To The World Cup With A Hatrick

Image
Argentina's Messi-iah was on fire as he scored a hartick for the team against Ecuador to qualify for the Russia 2018. According to  Goal.com , Argentina's 3-1 triumph over Ecuador that sealed qualification was tense, scrappy, and more than a bit fortunate. But ultimately their magnificent captain put in the display 43 million people were waiting for to drag them kicking and screaming into the 2018 World Cup. With another result it may even have proved Leo's final game with the national team – it would at least have been difficult to imagine him soldiering on for another five years for another crack at the apple in Qatar. The result itself was anything but a foregone conclusion. Aficionados of ominous statistics oft repeated in the build-up to the game that Argentina had won just once in the heights of Quito, the altitude of the Ecuadorian capital proving a daunting barrier to success over the years. And only a win would guarantee the Albiceleste at least ...

Iwobi fires Super Eagles to World Cup

Image
Alex Iwobi’s second half goal guaranteed Nigeria’s place at the 2018 World Cup, the Arsenal forward earning a 1-0 home win against Zambia on Saturday. The three-time Afrian champions defeated the Chipolopolo 2-1 away earlier in the group and they appeared set to do so again with few problems, Mweene making relatively straightforward saves from Moses Simon, Wilfried Ndidi and the lively Victor Moses. Towards the end of the first half, Zambia’s glorious opportunity went begging with Alex Ng’onga at fault as he failed to convert with goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa to beat, firing wide from close range. Alex Iwobi came on as a substitute and broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute with a calm finish from close range converting Abdulahi Shehu's low pass. Congratulations!!! @NGSuperEagles Is the first African team qualified to @FIFAWorldCup 2018 Full Time .. Nigera 1-0 Zambia #AFWCQ pic.twitter.com/CKj7KXVWmP — CAF (@CAF_Online) October 7, 2017

REAL MADRID LOST THEIR FIRST MATCH

Image
Real have failed to win any of their first three La Liga home games for only the third time-finishing sixth on both previous occasions. Could Zidane get sacked before the new year? Ronaldo came back from a ban but Los Blancos still slipped to a shock loss at home to Betis that leaves them seven points off top spot. According  Goal , problems at home for Real Madrid. If the disappointing draws against Valencia and Levante had seemed bad enough, Wednesday's shock loss to Real Betis means Los Blancos are already seven points behind Barcelona in La Liga. And even with Cristiano Ronaldo back, Zinedine Zidane's side risk falling out of contention in the Primera Division. League titles are not decided in the fifth round of 38 fixtures and there is a long, long way to go. However, with La Liga won with 90 points or more in recent seasons, a deficit of seven at this early stage is alarming for a Madrid side that had started out as red-hot favourites after winning a Primera D...

Leicester midfielder, Riyad Mahrez was reported to be seen at London but that was all the news to it, turns out he will be back at Leicester. REAL MADRID BEATS BARCELONA 3 -1 IN SUPERCOPA FIRST ROUND

Image
Real Madrid triumph over the Catalan club Barcelona in the Supercopa first leg after Ronaldo came and scored a very sensational goal before getting sent off by the referee. According to Goal.com , the Portugal star came off the bench to blast home the third goal of the visitors' 3-1 win at Camp Nou but earned a second yellow card for going to ground in the penalty area two minutes later, having earlier been booked for taking his shirt off in celebration. Zinedine Zidane's side took the lead early in the second half through an own goal from Gerard Pique but Barca levelled thanks to Lionel Messi's penalty, which was won in controversial fashion by Luis Suarez. Ronaldo put Madrid back ahead with a spectacular strike but was dismissed within two minutes of that goal and risked further punishment when he pushed the referee in the back before departing the field. Barca pushed for a second equaliser late on but were undone by Marco Asensio's brilliant strike on the ...

NINE MEN CHELSEA GETS STUN BY BURNLEY

Image
Chelsea’s Premier League title defense got off to a poor start as they lost 3-2 to Burnley and they had two players sent off. After captain Gary Cahill received a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Steven Defour, Sam Vokes put Burnley ahead in the 24th minute, volleying in Matthew Lowton’s cross. Stephen Ward doubled the lead a quarter of an hour later with a fierce shot after a one-two with Jack Cork. In-form Vokes now has seven goals in his last six Premier League appearances after netting only five in the previous 58. Antonio Conte substituted Batshuayi for Alvaro Morata 31 minutes to stoppage time and he scored on his Premier League debut with a header. Any hopes of a recovery were lost when Cesc Fabregas was sent off after collecting a second booking late on, although David Luiz did set up a grandstand finish with a powerful volley to make it 3-2 with two minutes left on the clock.  Robbie Brady then hit the post at the...

WAYNE ROONEY SHINES FOR EVERTON

Image
Wayne Rooney's first goal back in blue inspired boyhood club Everton to a narrow opening-weekend victory against Stoke.   The former Manchester United player  was cheered the loudest before a surprisingly energetic first half got under way, with a lackluster opening period eventually sparking into life in stoppage time. After 13 record-breaking years at Manchester United, the 31-year-old made the ideal mark on his Premier League homecoming. Everton had earlier struggled for fluidity as Ronald Koeman fielded five new signings from the outset, with Jordan Pickford comfortable in claiming a clean sheet. Both teams began with three at the back and it was the away side who looked more incisive early, targeting the space in behind Everton's wing-backs. Rooney struck with his first and only chance in the 44 minutes close to half-time. Dominic Calvert-Lewin crossed from the right, and Rooney was free to pick his spot with a header. Aside from a coupl...

ARSENAL BEATS CHELSEA AT COMMUNITY SHIELD ON PENALTIES (4 - 1)

Image
Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-1 in a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium to win the Community Shield. The Gunners perhaps had the better of a largely forgettable first-half, although Chelsea felt they should have had a penalty when Willian appeared to be tripped by Hector Bellerin. Instead the Brazilian was shown a yellow card for simulation. Chelsea started the second-half at a lightning-quick pace and took the lead after 46 minutes, when Victor Moses ran onto a Gary Cahill header and slammed a close-range finish beyond Petr Cech. In the annual match that marks the week leading up to the beginning of the Premier League season, it was Chelsea that went ahead in the 46th minute through Victor Moses. Then in penalty kicks, using the ABBA format, Arsenal took advantage of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois sending his penalty into the stands and Petr Cech saving Alvaro Morata's shot, with Olivier Giroud scoring the winner, giving the Gunners momentum heading into next week. ...
