What Is Eczema?

Eczema is a general term for a set of chronic skin conditions caused by inflammation. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common type of eczema, and has been called the "itch that rashes." The general term “eczema” is usually used to refer to AD. The word “atopic” means an allergy that is usually hereditary, and “dermatitis” is defined as inflammation of the skin.

What causes Eczema?

Eczema can be caused by different things so its hard to know what causes eczema.

• It could be hereditary, your genes may play a role. If others in your family are prone to these rashes, you may be too.
• A weak immune system can cause a flare-up.
• If your skin gets too dry, it may not be able to block out tiny bacteria or allergens that cause eczema. A healthy, supple skin protects you.
• Cold climates also can trigger eczema in some cases.
• Lots of Air pollution can cause it.
• Activities that may cause skin to be more sensitive especially during heat.

Ways of treating Eczema

• Hot or warm water during baths, so your skin can stay calmer. After you are done , gently pat your skin until its damp, then add your lotion.
• Avoid getting all sweaty or wear sunscreen, if you can't you can stay in a cool environment or a shade to avoid direct sunburns, because it can cause skin inflammation which can lead to eczema.
• Wear light clothes like cotton clothes, wool can be prickly in heat. Synthetic materials such as polyester, nylon and rayon can make you sweaty. 
• Wash clothes before you wear them to help get rid of chemicals used to keep them wrinkle-free at stores.
• Use cool soaps mostly antiseptic soaps to wash your body.
• If you are Food Sensitive, you should know the kinds of food to take. Research shows that this can also be the cause of eczema in some cases.
• If your skin is itching more than normal, avoid scratching and make sure you visit the dermatologist.
